For the special exhibition "The Tori I Met Today" at the Seoul Museum of Korean Folk Music, Pikant designed characters and promotional materials. This exhibition introduces ‘Tori’, a category of Korean folk songs differentiated by region and characteristics, in an easy and enjoyable manner. Pikant developed four Tori characters to match their musical traits and added a squirrel character named ‘Ari’, who is on a quest to find the Toris.
서울우리소리박물관 특별전, “오늘 만난 토리”를 위한 캐릭터와 홍보물을 만들었습니다. “오늘 만난 토리”는 지역과 특성에 따라 구분되는 민요의 갈래인 ‘토리’를 쉽고 재미있게 소개하는 전시입니다. 피칸트는 토리가 가진 음악적 특성에 맞춰 네 개의 토리 캐릭터를 만들고, 토리들을 찾는 다람쥐 ‘아리’ 캐릭터를 더했습니다.
Characters
Each Tori character is designed to reflect the unique characteristics and regional traits of their representative folk songs. Gyeongtori, known for its clear and lively sound, is illustrated with free-spirited pink curves, while Menaritori, sung in the eastern regions of the Baekdudaegan mountains, enjoys the hobby of mushroom picking in tranquil mountains. Ari, the squirrel, roams everywhere with a red backpack in search of the Toris and brings out cool sunglasses and a boombox when it’s time to party.
각 토리 캐릭터는 해당하는 대표 민요의 특징과 지역성을 살려 디자인했습니다. 맑고 경쾌한 소리가 특징인 경토리는 자유분방한 분홍색 곡선으로 그려졌고, 백두대간의 오른쪽 지역에서 불리는 메나리토리는 한적한 산에서 버섯을 채취하는 취미를 가지고 있습니다. 아리는 빨간 배낭을 메고 토리를 찾아 어디든 찾아가는 다람쥐입니다. 토리들과 파티를 즐길 때는 멋진 선글라스와 붐박스를 꺼내들기도 합니다.
Animation
The special exhibition’s promotional animation captures the first encounter between Ari and the Toris. The Toris, having fallen from a tree shaped like the Korean peninsula, engage in a playful chase with the squirrel, Ari. Eventually, the Toris realize Ari’s friendly intentions, and together, they join the forest animals in a joyous dance party.
특별전 홍보 애니메이션은 아리와 토리의 첫 만남을 담고 있습니다. 한반도 모양의 나무에서 떨어진 토리들은 다람쥐 아리와 쫓고 쫓기는 실랑이를 벌입니다. 결국 토리들은 친구가 되고 싶어하는 아리의 마음을 알게 되고, 숲속 동물들과 다함께 춤을 추며 즐거운 파티를 즐깁니다.
Interactive Contents
Visitors to the special exhibition can discover their matching Tori by answering simple questions on interactive screens installed in the exhibition hall. Pikant set up the hobbies and characteristics for each Tori and created simple interactive games that engage visitors in a fun manner. On the results page, visitors can listen to the representative folk song of their matched Tori.
특별전을 찾은 관람객들은 전시장에 설치된 스크린에서 간단한 질문에 답하며 자신과 어울리는 토리를 찾을 수 있습니다. 피칸트는 각 토리의 취미와 특징을 설정하고 재미있게 참여할 수 있는 간단한 인터랙션 게임을 제작했습니다. 결과 페이지에서는 해당 토리의 대표 민요를 들어볼 수 있습니다.
Activity Booklet
The special exhibition activity booklet is made available at the entrance of the exhibition hall for visitors to take home after their visit. The booklet features a cover that resembles a record album and includes four Tori boards along with stickers. Visitors can place the correct stickers in the designated spaces on the boards to revisit and reinforce what they have learned about the exhibition.
특별전 활동지는 관람을 마친 방문객들이 가져갈 수 있도록 전시장 입구에 비치됩니다. 활동지는 레코드판을 연상시키는 커버와 네 개의 토리 보드, 스티커가 들어있습니다. 방문객들은 보드의 빈 칸에 정답 스티커를 붙이고, 전시의 내용을 다시 한 번 상기할 수 있습니다.
